Long time friends

I first took that shot from across the street; they seemed puzzled, so I walked over to them and started a chat. Lovely ladies -- Alice, Marie and Delores, friends forever, enjoying one of the first nice days in DC, on the stoop of their building.

They've lived there and known each other for over 20 years. They told me that up until just last month, they were going to have to move; the building management was not maintaining their rent-controled building, in a bid to probably sell it off for a handsome profit. But another company stepped in and is starting welcome repairs and refurbishments.

The relief was apparent as they spoke to me: they get to stay together, in a place where they spent a large portion of their life, in a neighborhood that is wholly theirs. A good day for all :)
