The Singer

Again one of my favourite past times: taking pictures through windows (or of windows)! This one is the view inside an old-fashioned glovemaker shop situated under the arches of the Jardins du Palais Royal. Due to a heavy criss-cross fence I could not get a better view and show you the beautiful pairs of gloves on display... But this picture still holds something dear to me: I am from an unusual family in the sense that my paternal side was mostly made of painters (poor and unknown), my father was a qualified woodcarver and could make marquetterie (he actually had a diploma from the worldwide known ecole Boule in Paris). And my mother was a qualified corset-maker and worked for some shop which were only making made-to-measure corsets for both wealthy ladies and some with medical needs! But I do really feel proud to have this heritage... Both did not manage to live from their trades as they were disappearing fast to the be replaced by mass production in the mid-sixties ! Such a shame though! However I am proud of them for having chosen to learn something they were really passionate about and having tried to live from it! Hats off!
