Bilberry Bells

Leaving work somewhat later than normal, I took a quick stroll round the open space next to the Pirbright Ranges in the balmy late afternoon sun. The perimeter of the woodland was glowing with bright new growth, which on closer inspection had tiny rosy red bell flowers.

Back home, I discovered that this was a Bilberry, or Vaccinium myrtillus
, which come autumn should be covered in grey blue nutritious berries similar to the American Blueberry.
