Now on DVD!
May 2000. It doesn't seem like 14 years is really all that much, but this relic proves that wrong: DVD players were a brand new thing and were white hot at this time - as for me, I was still using the VCR I got in 1995 and filling up hundreds of blank tapes with movies from on-demand cable, which was also a brand new thing. The joke is in my usual toilet humor crosshairs, but this comes from a friend I remember just losing his mind about the picture quality of his porn now. If you have a second, go YouTube the commercials for DVD players back in the day and you'll see why this is extra funny. I guess for me that's the big difference between this great shiny modern future we've got now and my nostalgic young man's memories: everything then seemed a bit more tactile and complex. Insert video cassette; program VCR to record (which was practically a satanic ritual to figure out); leave house and walk to movieplex. Now I can literally dial up pretty much anything I want to entertain myself - but I don't exactly connect with it. My friends are Facebook icons now; my comic strip is digitally scanned in and stored safely on a drive. Who know what I'm talking about? Certainly not me.
