Golden Daffodil
It's just been in the past week or so that the spring blooms have finally started to put on a show around our house. I looked out one day last week and saw the green stems of daffodils. Sometime in the past day or two, they have started to bloom.
I marvel each spring at the variety of colors and shapes of the daffodils. Some of them are pale yellow, and frilly, like southern belles. Others are a combination of brighter yellows and white. Then there are the poet's daffodils, so small and dainty, with white petals and a yellow center surrounded by a delicate rim of red (photos: one, and two). I've even got several varieties of pink daffodils that vary in shade from pale peach to pink, all the colors of the sunrise (photos: one, and several).
The particular variety shown in this photo was growing in this spot before I bought the house. They seem like a gift from those who lived there before me, their bright hues lighting the yard like a hundred tiny golden suns.
I wanted the song to accompany this photo to be about the color gold. I couldn't pick between two favorites, so here they both are. The first is a country song from the late 70s by one of the best three-part harmony groups you'll ever hear: Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers singing All the Gold in California. The second is a classic rock tune by the band America, Sister Golden Hair. Enjoy!
