Between fen and mountains

By Tickytocky

Last patch of snow

The snow has almost disappeared on the smaller mountains across the valley. The ridge on Canigou is just becoming visible but that is a blip for another day. Today was another tangle with French administration. The Mairie phoned this morning to say that the Easter service in the restored church could not go ahead as, although the prefectorial arreté had been lifted, certain inspections had not been carried out. I tried to explain how much work had gone into the preparations for an Easter opening but I was faced with a brick wall of red tape and intransigence. Finally, I said I could not return to the church and disappoint so many without them at least investigating a solution. They insisted the Fire Brigade would not be able to inspect at late notice but finally agreed to a meeting at the church later in the morning. The Technical chief and two of the new mayoral team subsequently arrived and were so impressed with the building, the history and all the work that had gone on that the previous implacable objections miraculously evaporated! Result!
The organ is coming on and all the electrical connections for each key are being resoldered, the electrician has been and installed the power, the blowers are working and some notes are sounding.
