LAST OF THE SUMMER

Champagne air with cool nights and sunny days...the best time of the year.
A visiting friend took a deep breath of air relishing the layered garden smells..a hint of fig, lemon verbena, rosemary or maybe guava.
The guavas are ripening fast. There are still some grapes and figs. Fewer pomegranates this year, but more quinces than we could ever cope with.
Tomorrow two little boys arrive for a precious two day visit. I wonder, will they eat guavas from the tree, look for ripe figs or is it more familiar in a plastic punnet?
