When your face seems to fall off after 2 minutes outside and your children complain they don't like the snowy wind hitting their eyes and that it should please be summer again, you realise winter is here. Minus 11 degrees today - I worry about our Scottish friend who arrives today and who in all likelihood has never heard of long, warm underpants....
