Lews Castle

One of the castles that inspired the name of this photoblog: Lews Castle. It was home to the owners of the Isle of Lewis until the mid 1920s. One of them, Sir James Matheson, was the 1860s variety of a drugsbaron, making his fortune in the opiumtrade with China and precipitating a war in the process. Lews Castle is now in a delapidated state, and awaiting a multi-million pound cash injection to make it useable again.
