Hawes Water,a man made jewel in the landscape

At the cost of drowning the village of Mardale, which was situated just before the shoreline, where the dry stone wall reaches the right hand edge of the pines above the island.
In dry years when the level falls, stone walls belonging to the village become visible.
There is a car park just visible between the two stands of pines on the far shore.
Usually there's lots of space, but not on bank holidays!
