at home with an Ivysaurus

Up the garden path

Glorious weather today- we skived off doing house/garden work in the morning and went on an adventure to Corrieshalloch gorge. Ivy slept on my back whilst we treked down the path- it's her first adventure with us (the first of many we hope).

In the afternoon we collected some particullarly wormy manure from Leckmelm farm to add some much needed life to our allotment bed and my back garden raised bed. Then we went up to the allotment to get potatoes planted. I made the mistake of letting Ivy play with the bags I had the seed potatoes in and she knocked off some of the shoots- I also managed to stick my shovel right through a potato causing another casulty. I'm something more of an enthusiastic than a skilled gardener.

We were meant to be having friends over at 5 for afternoon coffee and cakes (our friday tradition). Euan was making a salted caramel chocolate cake that is the most ridiculously indulgent thing ever. The recipe is from the hummingbird cookbook, but it had to be adjusted to make it gluten free as our friend Laura is gluten intolerent. Ullapool Tesco had no suitable flour substitte, so Euan made a baked mouse instead. Laura and Tim (who were meant to come at 5- aka before Ivy bedtime) arrived at 7 (right bang in the middle of Ivy bedtime) bringing an unexpected friend. There was a slightly hectic half hour, whilst we got Ivy in bed and found dinner for people, but in the end it was okay. We played a hilarious game called 'Cards against Humanity' that I got Euan for his birthday. We all laughed so hard our faces hurt- It took me more than half of the game to get any points though :(
