Bethells Lake

We've had a sensational day today. The Eldest's best friend stayed over last night and joined us on our adventure out to Bethells Lake today. You have to cross HUGE sand dunes to access the lake, and we'd taken cardboard to go dune surfing.

The dune surfing didn't go quite to plan, as there'd been quite a bit of rain, which meant that the cardboard stuck to the dunes instead of sliding. Everyone had fun running and leaping off the dunes, especially in this spot which lead down to the stream.

We had a lovely paddle in the lake and then after heading back to the car, we finished the day with a stop at Parakai Hot Springs for a swim. We stayed until the stars were out, just hanging out in the pools. The kids (and the Husband) also played on the hydroslides. I went down once, which was enough for my weary legs. I was more interested in the lovely hot pools and just chilling.
