Pitsaw Site

I went out with a lovely friend today, we went for a Bush wander at Makarora, I came across this Pitsaw Site which I actually took on my phone.
The Pit was dug so that the loggers could saw large trees, men were on the top of the tree with a huge long saw and one man underneath ( this is where the phrase " under dog " came from.) it would have been a terrible job with all the sawdust falling on you. This site was in operation in the 1860s
