The Kurow Bridges Old & New.
My intention was a blip of Wanaka autumn colours today as I have been there over Easter and haven't blipped it yet!
But on the way home an opportunity rose in front of me as we went over the rickety old Kurow Bridge, there were no workmen!! hence having quickly screeched pull over pull over to R driver we stopped in amongst the bollards(off the road!) and I disappeared over the bank to take this side of the bridge with the evening sun on it. normally its all out of bounds and it wont be long before the 132 year old bridges get taken down. we are already driving over the first new one.
here the picture shows the battered structure of the old wooden bridge and the new rust coloured steel one with its concrete pillar, the other side of that is a temporary working bridge made for the cranes to work off during the building.
the old bridges have stood there for 132 years but over the years have felt the strain of the strong flow of water released from the hydro dams.
Many Photos have been taken of them over the years.
