East Grinstead High Street (2 in a series)
At the end of the High Street sits Sackville College.
It was founded in 1609 with money left by Robert Sackville, 2nd Earl of Dorset. From its inception to the current day it has provided sheltered accommodation for the elderly.
Dr John Mason Neale, was warden from 1846 until his death in 1866. He is best remembered for the considerable number of hymns he penned; he will forever be remembered as the author of the carol "Good King Wenceslas".
It is open on from Wednesday to Sunday afternoons from 11th June to 14th September 2pm -5pm. For more details visit the college website
