What's In A Street Name 7 - Miranda Walk

Apart from my interest in street names and place names, there are several reasons for choosing this particular street name! Bewbush is one of the Neighbourhoods of Crawley New Town and each area is colour coded and Bewbush is brown. It takes it's name from the Manor of Bewbush, once a part of the extensive parish of Lower Beeding of which it was a Tithing. There is much more to say on Bewbush history and that will come in a future picture (probably more interesting than this one!!). Nevertheless, I visited here after work as it was dry and bright.

Miranda Walk is among a whole collection of roads in Bewbush named after celestial bodies - be it planets, constellations and planetary moons. This is named after a moon of Uranus and was in turn mamed after the character of Miranda in Shakespeare's The Tempest. It was so named and discovered by Astronomer, Gerald Kuiper at the McCloud Observatory in 1948. So it has a nice scientific connection.

But also.... Miranda is one of my story characters! Having discovered this road, it is the only road so far discovered that uses a name of any of my story characters! She is the only one to be married at present and lives with her husband Graham and their two daughters Evie and Sofia in cottage in a hamlet near Alton in Hampshire. Miranda is 40 years old and has rather wild curly hair and is a Learning Support Assistant. As she works in close contact with teachers, this is how she has got to know Rachel, Sarah and Laverne. Interestingly, in real life the name means "adorable" and "Fit to be loved". Miranda is well liked by the pupils although she does have difficult ones. She is easy going, but is more sensitive than the others. She shares Rachel's interest in history and the world around her as well as striving to be a good mother to her two daughters.

My story and characters is set in against a background of attractive places and scenery, a busy and lively place of work and is about the friendship (and love) that exists between them all and those whom they work or have close contact with. Unlike many modern works of fiction it is not ever going to be about divorces, rows, affairs and rampant leaping in and out of bed! (However exciting that may be to some) True, there is at least one murder, theft and so on, and it's how they all help the Police to solve the murder and support those affected by it.
