In the village.....

Karonga had an earthquake a few years ago, or rather a series of earthquakes as it is at the bottom of the great rift valley.

Many of the houses fell down due to poor infrastructure and this house was no exception. Where you can see the bricks was a hole after the earthquake as the wall fell down, and for a long time people slept either outside or in tents. Karonga is extremely hot and at this time of year its humid too so lots of mosquitoes - I am glad I was sleeping inside the house under a net!!

This lady was one of the ladies making lunch for the participants - nsima with eggs in tomato sauce........delicious!!
