Phnom Penh
Our last breakfast by the pool and time for a laze and a swim before setting off with a Mr Po for the airport. It was good to have some chill out time. the last few days have been pretty full on.
J couldn't believe how quiet and easy the domestic terminal at Siem Reap was - no crowds or queues there. A 45 minute turbo prop journey by Angkor Air to Phnom Penh. Another tuk tuk driver with a sign - J's name this time and more crazy driving. Absolute mayhem.
Our second boutique hotel was in the city centre, a restored 1950's building with high walls and a pool. Again we dumped the stuff organised a tuk tuk for tomorrow and then headed off for the sunset cruise on the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers. 4th time lucky - well almost!
The two rivers are different colours, the Tonle Sap is brown and the Mekong blue. It's so odd to be here. Remembering the Vietnam War my teenage years were spent hearing about the Mekong - and here I am, drinking beer and eating peanuts. There were 5 of us on the boat, a mother and son from Germany, he is working in HK, and a Swedish girl, setting up the new blue and yellow stores in Seoul.
The cruise was very relaxing and then it was off in our tuk tuk again for a meal in a restaurant on the Quay. Very busy with mainly expats. j had a long chat with a fellow Aussie (she speaks to everyone!) .
We had an early night, the combination of travel, heat, a Pimms by the pool and a large jug of Cambodian beer.
