Cottages at Alfold, Surrey

A very wet day and photographic opportunities outside were limited. On the way home, we made a stop at Alfold and I managed to take some pictures of which this was one.

These cottages are sub-divided and the one nearest the camera is used as the church room for Alfold Parish Church which is to the left out of the picture. These are typical of the area and are tile hung. There are also fish scale tiles visible that come in a wide range of different shapes and are common in the vernacular architecture of much of Surrey, Sussex and Kent. Alfold lies on the Surrey border close to LOxwood in WEst Sussex and the village has a good range of timber-framed cottages dation from the 15th to the 17th Centuries.
