mating season
last year we we majorly excited to find a dunnock a nest in a tree just outside our back garden. we watched the parents build the best, lay the eggs and then watched as the three teeny babies free and fledged within days. it was brilliant.
this year though we have been dismayed that the dunnocks don't seen to have returned. our fears were slightly allayed when we saw a blackbird starting to build a best the other week. hopes were again dashed when we saw next doors and our cat hanging about the tree, followed by a pile of feathers in the grass a few days later.
so today, while pottering about in the garden I thought I'd have a sneak peak to see of there was any if the best left. imagine my surprise to see that the blackbirds had bit only built a second nest higher up, but had in fact lain two eggs!!!
I'm so excited to see these wee ones hatch and fly off into the world!!!
