The Great Rugby Debate
It's been a while since I last had a Moffett blip entry!
Me and Dawn went down to St David's Hall this afternoon to be part of the Big Welsh Rugby Debate, called by David Moffett to challenge David Pickering to account. David Pickering didn't show, and sadly nor did anyone from the WRU, but the afternoon was a great success.
They put together a panel of Paul Turner (ex Newport Gwent Dragons), Huw Jones (ex Sports Wales CEO), Non Evans (record Wales Women Rugby captain) an was chaired by Nigel Walker (ex Olympic Athlete, Welsh Winger and former BBC Wales Head). The discussion was chaired like BBC Question Time, with questions from the floor.
A lot of it was going over old ground for me, but this was a new audience, and the message has to keep being put out there. There was about 12 Ponty fans there, all still gutted after Saturday.
David once reiterated that the door was open for another pro team in 2020, as long as a sustainable plan was put it place. He reiterated once more that he made a number of mistakes back ten years ago and now understood why the original plan for regions didn't work.
It was a fascinating afternoon, and I am glad I was involved in it.
More pictures from the day are in this Flickr set.
