Nearly a Birdie!

Not unfortunately the correct kind! I have just returned from our annual 2 day golf outing (10 of us) to the Haddington area. Today we played Castle Park - a beautiful golf course near Gifford set in rolling countryside with wonderful views of the surrounding hills, with sheep and lambs in the fields and the cock pheasants strutting around the fairways.

This view is of a pond on the first hole and as often happens my ball landed fairly close to the edge of the water requiring a lofted shot to carry the water. Not having properly limbered up perhaps I hit a low shot which bounced and skimmed across the water and to our amazement hit the opposite side and scampered another 20 yards up the hill towards the green !

The near Birdie was the swan swimming gracefully on the pond - 2 of my playing mates had already plopped their golf balls into the pond and then mine went skimming past the poor bird. I suppose if it spends much time there it must get used to the perils of getting in the way of high handicap golfers!
