Arnside Knott

Drove to the Southern Lake District where we are staying in Arnside at the estuary of the River Kent.

We had an afternoon walk along the shoreline from Arnside to Silver Howe. The weather was at its best as the coastguard sounded the warning hooter to warn of the incoming tide. Fortunately we had no plans to head on to the infamous quick sands of Morcambe Bay.

Two local men stopped to warn us of an incoming bore as the tide raced up the estuary. We did not see it but can vouch for the sound of the tide rushing in very quickly.

Our walk took in Arnside Knott which although not very high gave spectacular views of the Lakeland Fells. However the panoramic photos were beaten by this young Highland bull on our walk back to Arnside. The Kent estuary and Grange Over Sands can be seen in the background.
