Downtown Blantyre
The centre of Blantyre is a wonderfully vibrant mixture of sounds and colour. It is such a shame that it is not really deemed safe to wander about - especially wielding a camera. Unfortunately there is a high risk of being mugged or constantly harrassed by people begging. I've been trying to capture some of the street life from the back of the taxi but most days the shots have been really blurred. However, today we were caught in a traffic jam and I managed to get a clear shot of this little section of the street. Many Malawians are subsistence farmers. Once they have enough produce they come in to town and sell the excess. There are a lot of potatoes, beans and beautiful big fat red tomatoes. In this shot the seller is offering mangoes, plantain and bananas and beans amongst other things. I always think it looks so lovely and fresh and you can be sure there are no additives or GMOs involved! :-).
