Street Vendors
I managed to grab this shot from the back of the taxi today. Everywhere you go in Blantyre you see people sitting by the side of the road selling things - like the farm produce I featured yesterday.
Today we have a banana seller on the left. On the right of the photo the guys are buying 'air-time' for their cell phones. A large number of people use mobile phones - more so than land lines. There are three main providers and the most common way to get connected is to buy 'air-time' from a stall at the roadside manned by an agent of the particular phone company. Each of the agents carries a plastic table - usually the same colour as their company's logo. which they take away at the end of the day. They also have an umbrella in the company colours for shade. In that way it is easy for customers to find an agent for the particular company they are with.
