Dillenia Indica - Elephant Apple

Our one neighbor brought me a few of them from 'Waterval Boven' where they had a short holiday. They discovered them and asked around, when they were informed that it was called Elephant Apple, she decided to ask me about it, I Googled and came up with this!

It reminded of the delicious Custard Apples we had in our garden in Zambia, but these are really bitter, not really edible neat like this, but according to the link above, they are often used in spicy dishes in the East, particularly with coconut! Please do read the link, very interesting!
