We are going up!
I awoke early, very early.
I was at the ground at 7.30 to check the sound system.
I didn't have to: I wanted to.
I don't ever recall being as nervous and excited at the same time for such a long period.
I wouldn't change today at all. It's been perfect.
We went behind on 7 minutes after a mistake by our (usually) reliable goalkeeper.
We pressed hard and had lots of chances. But it stayed 1-0 to the opposition.
We equalised in the second half. Cue elation and belief.
90 minutes, the scores are level.
Extra time.
And injury meant 5 minutes added at the end of the first half of extra time but no goals.
Another 15 agonising minutes passed without a goal.
Penalties.
They won both coin tosses and chose the end where their fans were and to go first.
First penalty scored.
Our penalty missed.
Their second penalty SAVED
We score 1-1
They score
We score
They MISS
We score 3-2
They score 3-3
4 penalties each.
Our goalkeeper steps up with the opportunity to win it.
HE SCORES!!!!!!!!
Cue scenes of celebration. Cue a stadium announcer trying to announce through tears!
Next season AFC Fylde will play in The Conference North.
I had a dinner appointment in Sunderland to get to so I had to leave the party early with no alcohol!
Worth every second.
It more than softens Carlisle being relegated today. As of tonight we are one promotion and one relegation from each other.
Thank you to all of you who have followed AFC Fylde's fortunes through this amazing season.
