Robin Hood Picking Rods

The legend is that Robin Hood used to bend his new bows into shape on the stones.

A rather grey and overcast day but warm enough today so we did quite a long walk over Cown Edge to Ludworth Moor looking for some special moorland birds. We were lucky and found them at first just a few plaintive calls and then a distant view of a few on the ground and then a sky full of them. They are Golden Plover and ok there were 65 rather than a sky full but it was impressive.

The first half of the walk we saw 1 lady on a horse and a van driving to a farm after going over the highest point we began to see a line of people walking towards us then some more and more in the end we met nearly everyone from the local village of Mellor. They were on the Mellor march - raising money for charity, good on them but it did make it difficult to get a shot of the said Rods.
