The Daily Mynci

A rare treat

Corrie was away on his Primary 7 school trip to Cumbria this weekend, Erin at her Granny's caravan and Marley in kennels. Me and Mrs Mynci cashed in 7 years of Tesco's clubcard points for one night in a 5* hotel in Edinburgh. Marvellous. First weekend completely to ourselves for nearly 8 years.

We started off with a Friday night watching "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" on sky box office. Great movie - I'm off to Iceland next weekend... No blip last night, couldn't be arsed :-)

Today we got booked into The Glasshouse late morning - man in tails and a hat took our luggage ... you don't get that in a travellodge!! Neither of us liked the servility much - but it was kind of surreal having a guy in tails shake your hand and bow at your wife when you're wearing a "sons of anarchy" t-shirt and ripped jeans ;-}

Before lunch we popped in the Portrait Gallery round the corner to check out the Taylor Wessing top entries and winners. We both picked a different top 3 to eachother and to the judges.

Then we crossed the bridge to grab lunch in Prezzo's - first time for both of us. Michelle's salad on a pizza base was a revelation. All the time we were being fed text updates from Corrie's teachers. He was having a ball - first time away from us on his own.

After an hour or two wandering round the shops, we couldn't wait any longer and went to check out the room. We thought it might be the runt room in the basement, because we hadn't really paid for it (33,000 Avios points whatever that is), but it was an amazing room with a view down Leith Walk.

After using up all the artisan coffee cartridges, we dragged ourselves away from our luxury pad to the cinema next door to watch Divergence - which was pretty damn good.

This shot was taken on the return to our room, where we supped the champagne (that I won in a camera club competition) watching twilight fall on the city.

Time for dinner ... we found a nice little italian around the corner after forsaking the temptation of the delightfully named Phuket Palace. There was even an art gallery in the hotel to wander round before we went back to our luxury room and finished the fizz.

No sunday blip - we carried on the italian theme with breakfast at the diner on the corner. We could have got breakfast in bed for 4 times the price, but we're practical romantics!!
