The Unbearable Mossyness of Being

I stumbled on this magnificent beech tree some time ago while looking for fungi. It's hidden deep within a dense commercial plantation. I can see why the forester kept it. Anyway, I'm glad I got this photo for posterity. 100 yards south I emerged from the forest covered in larch twigs to find the one opposite clear-felled. The trees around this beech might be next.

This scene is just a pile of logs and daylight on the right now, and this one from the other direction still has the elephant leg trees on the right hand side but on the left it's great piles of logs as far as you can see.
