I almost couldn't bear to watch...
as I know from experience that pheasants, when confronted with an oncoming car, run frantically back and forth right in front of it unable to make up their minds which side of the road they should head for! The female made it to the other side first time, but the male needed a few attempts, and a very patient driver, before, after nearly getting across a couple of times but then changing direction at the last minute, eventually making it back to the same side he'd wanted to cross from in the first place. He was eventually reunited with his partner when, after the car had passed, he crossed to her side where they both ambled into an oilseed rape field and safety! :-)
