Scene of the crime

Had an outpatient appointment for Audrey at the Children's Hospital today. A final follow-up on the reflux she had as a baby.

It felt so strange returning to St Mary's Hospital where she was born, especially given the time of year - almost two years ago exactly. The weather was the same as it had been the day I went into labour and there was something about the place today that had a strange effect on me. The hospital smell from the extraction fans, the view of the carpark (pictured - which was actually the view from my bed for 5 days after she was born).

I had a traumatic few days in hospital and I think I buried the feelings I had about my time there. Today they hit me between the eyes as I walked round the place.

In her appointment, Audrey wasn't playing ball with the doctor when he wanted to examine her. She got really upset, poor love. But she loved the waiting room and spent a happy 30 mins running around it and playing with all the toys.

Even though we were up at 6.30 so we were both pretty tired, we've had a lovely day today together. Lots of playing, a nice walk and some of her favourite books.

Just want to flop tonight but have to haul myself up to my office to catch up on some emails in a bit as am out on the road with work all day tomorrow....
