Shuttlecock

Unfurling from just a knob on the ground, the fronds scroll up to 50cm tall in a matter of a couple of days. It is remarkable that such complexity appears out of a few cells in so short a time.

The lovely fresh green colour lasts through the summer, and gives good ground cover beneath the shrubs. One of my favourite plants, the Shuttlecock fern.
