Snakes Entwined

Don't ask me cause I don't know what's going on in there.

Just two snakes (the likes of which we've never seen before and couldn't ID in the nature book) entwined together with their top halves out of sight inside the tree stump,

Which just so happened to be the Tree Gnome's backside! Hmmmm, makes one pause to ponder.....

Anyway, at first glance I thought they were black racers, but the pale green speckles that are in a definitive pattern kind of threw us. If anyone can ID, would love to hear what they are!
