Green-Winged Orchid (Anacamptis morio)

Unique & Lovely recommended me to seek this very attractive orchid at a site east of where I work. So off I went and after a good look round, I found plenty. It is a native of western Eurasia and is found in Britain on especially on limestone-rich soils in grassy meadows. It flowers from late April to June and looks like an Early Purple Orchid, but the Green-Winged does not have the spots that the Early Purple has.

It was certainly well worth seeking out and is a species that I have never seen until now.
