Handkerchief Tree

I don't think I've ever clocked this beautiful tree in Benmore Gardens, despite the number of visits we've made over the years. One of the joys of the gardens is that you can take paths at a different time of year from the last visit and find it completely different - they are so extensive and so confusing that without actually getting lost you can miss the plant or view you had in mind and find something altogether new.

This is what Wikipedia has to say: Davidia involucrata (dove tree, handkerchief tree, pocket handkerchief tree, ghost tree) is a medium-sized deciduous tree, usually placed in the tupelo family (Nyssaceae),[1][2] but sometimes included (with the tupelos) in the dogwood family (Cornaceae), and by yet others given family status of its own, as Davidiaceae. It is native to South Central and Southwest China from Hubei to southern Gansu, south to Guizhou, Sichuan and Yunnan.
