Beans and Pease

Had to go into Falkirk for a meeting this morning and, while I was making my way along the High Street, spotted this inscription carved into a wall outside what is now known as Falkirk Trinity church - formerly Falkirk Old & St Modan's. It was right at the end of the low wall, almost obscured by (what looked like) an electrical or telephone junction-box. It reads:

Glasgow for Bells
Linlithgow for Wells
Falkirk for Beans and Pease

I'd never heard this wee rhyme before, but a check on the internet suggests that it refers to Falkirk's pre-industrial past, when the area was better known for its agricultural produce.
One learns something every day!
