democracy
Gaimersheim is a Markt in the Landkreis of Eichstått. That is part of Oberbayern, and that is part of the Land of Bayern.
I'm open to correction, but I don't think Oberbayern is a political entity - just geographic.
The equivalent Scottish entities would be the former burgh (Markt) and county (Landkreis). I suppose Scotland is a comparable entity to Bayern. Scotland had burghs and counties until local government re-organisation in the 1970s.
Gaimersheim's population is just 11,000, but it has its own mayor.
The point?
The constitutional debate going on in Scotland at the moment has brought out many calls for more localised democracy, in the expectation (as happens in other countries) that is will stimulate greater engagement of citizens in the democratic process.
The OH is not political at all, and suffers my activism rather benignly. However, she did offer up that she votes for the current mayor because she knows her, likes her and trusts her (she may even be a patient). They will stop and have a chat in the street or the supermarket.
The mayor is not in the party the OH would vote for in other elections.
Interesting.
Bring back Kirkcaldy Burgh Council and Fife County Council?
Always something to be learned from other places.
Markt
The Blip is just the town crest as shown at the town museum.
