Mill Pond, Slaugham
After a horrible day at work today sadly, it was nice to leave early and go for a walk. I returned to Slaugham and walked down to the Mill Pond and a little further on, retracing the same way back. I had never visited the lake before and this was new territory for me and is only 5 miles from work.
To describe this as a mere pond is a bit of an understatement as it is a very large lake! At the eastern end of it is Slaugham Mill itself. This is a black tarred mill with a mansard roof that appears to have been converted into a house. The lake also has an unusual boathouse that reminded me of a derelict American Covered Bridge! There were Canada Geese and a Great Crested Grebe on the water. The western end of the lake is rather overgrown with willows. I met a number of people out with a variety of dogs and every person I met was very friendly which added greatly to the enjoyment of the walk.
