Modern Day Fairy Tale

Today is the day of the May Ball. It promises to be lovely weather - sipping champagne in the sun, dancing 'til midnight - that sort of thing.

Poor Cinderella is sitting in the kitchen in her dressing gown. She looks fondly at the bright invitations to the Prince's Ball - but there isn't one for her. 'Aaaah' - I hear you all sigh!

But help is at hand. Zing! In flies the Fairy Godmother with a cup of tea and a cheery word.
'Cup of tea?!' queried Cinders.
'It's a bit early for the champers,' the FGM said firmly, 'even a potential princess starts the day sober!'

'Let's see what we can do,' said the FGM. 'First of all - the Invitation!' With a cheery swish her Invitation was added to the pile.

Zap! Another swish of the magic wand, and a beautiful dress materialised out of the back of the wardrobe. Then came a 'Zap!' and, lo and behold, the golden slippers appeared from nowhere. (well, back of a different wardrobe!)

'Now,' said the FGM, 'hairdresser is booked for 1.oo and nails for 2.30. You'll have to do your own make-up - they're all busy.'

'Fairy nuf,' muttered Cinders, 'and what's with the pumpkin?' she asked excitedly.

'Well, strictly speaking it's a spaghetti squash - the supermarket doesn't stock pumpkins at this time of year. Now, at the magic hour of 7 o'clock it will become a taxi cab. Sorry, but the glass coaches were booked up months ago!'

'Cinderella - You Shall Go to the Ball! Have fun!'.
And off she swished to do another good deed for someone else.

The End

Notes: you will all notice there is no matching bag. The trouble with these last minute changes of outfits is that not everything has been thought through. I have yet to locate the evening bag that will accommodate the dSLR! that might be the 'Cinderella' that gets left at home!
