Helicoptor on the ferry
It was a long, long drive to Stornoway to catch the ferry. The roads were icy and there had been an accident on the main road which meant that we had to go round by the west coast of Lewis. The state that the roads were in, I was worried that we wouldn't make it in time.
Well, we made it and the late-afternoon excitement on the ferry ride was provided by the Coastguard. They were doing an exercise where they were winching someone on and off the back of the boat. If you look carefully you can see the guy on the back of the boat in his orange overalls. I suppose it's a serious exercise, but it looked like it might be a bit of fun.
The mainland looked spectacular from the boat. The pristine white mountains in Wester Ross made it feel like somewhere like Antarctica or Norway.
The drive back from Ullapool was a bit of a nightmare too, but we took it easy and made it in one piece.
