New Broom Brings A Field Of Woodland Colour

Awake at four, up at five, in Tillingham by seven. In the ambulance with Mother at eight-forty-five. Late for her nine-thirty appointment at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford but seen immediately. Finished at ten-forty-five. Wheelchair broke. Waiting for ambulance for the return journey.

I slipped outside and snapped this work by Walter Jack Studio entitled Woodland Colour. It's very clever. It comprises twenty identical arcs coloured with vandal-proof enamel. Wherever you choose to stand – within or outside the ‘woodland’ – you will only see a few of the colours. The result is almost a conjuring trick and creates a change of mood as the whole space seems suddenly re-decorated in a different hue. The amount spent on art for the new wing of the hospital is quite controversial. (I've given the pic a slight stormy-weather tweak. It's been one of those days.)

Midday ambulance arrived. Transported in style back to Tillingham having a lovely chat with the co-driver on the way. Drove back, through Chelmsford and home.
