Waxworks
Indias school have a year 3 tradition - waxworks. Each girl chooses an historical figure, researches them and learns by heart a speech about them. By helping each other practise and learn their speeches they end up learning about lots of important people who have shaped our lives today. Today the girls were positioned all around school, in the corridors and in the gym, they sat motionless like waxwork models awaiting a tap on their shoulder to come to life and regale you with their life's achievements. India chose Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman doctor, I am very proud of her as she did all the work herself and so knew her subject inside out. I tapped India first then went round all her friends taking their photo and listening to their soliloquies. There was William Shakespeare, Charles Darwin, Margaret Thatcher, Emmeline Pankhurst, Anna Pavlova, Captain Cook, Coco Chanel, Albert Einstein, Marie Curie and so many more. This photo is of my Mum watching Guy Fawkes.
I walked an excited Elizabeth Blackwell and her little sister to school, made it to spinning and then stayed for some gym, zoomed over to see a poorly friend with Nic and made her an easy family dinner for tonight. Jenny had collected Heidi to take her swimming so I could go and watch the waxworks. India and Heidi had opticians appointments after achool, it was Heidi's first time being able to read the letters and she was so cute concentrating on getting her sight test right. India had a panic when the funny glasses got put on and suddenly couldn't see anything at all when the different lenses were tried out. The optician called her out on it and she admitted she didn't want specs, he told her that she didn't need them just yet anyway! We dropped India at Nics for brownies and went for a dog walk with Nic and Katy leaving her husband in charge of feeding the 3 girls and getting them to Brownies.
