Of Little Consequence

My Grandfathers Clock ( watch)

Found this at the back of a drawer today, belonged to my Grandad, . A fine Yorkshire man, and the one person who was a balanced role model in my younger years.
He would take me off at 6.00am on a weekend, we would go off in his Morris Minor Traveller seeking adventure. He would drive along verrrry slowly saying ' We're in no rush, we've got all the time in the world' while an angry queue of honking cars followed us.

He would pull over into a country lay by and set up a camping table and chairs and cook us a full English breakfast.

He had fashioned a tumbler holder in the car, he would often have a glass of sherry as we drove, he kept a bottle in the car.

He would sprinkle salt all over the carpets in his cottage every Saturday when he was hoovering, to make sure he hadn't missed anywhere. Saturday was also brass polishing day.

He allowed me to use his oil paints and bought me Windsor and Newton inks at Christmas.

He taught me how to light a fire and he smelled of Old Spice, he was a wonderful gardener and looked after the grounds at Farfield Hall between Addingham and Bolton Abbey.

I wish he could have stayed around for a bit longer.
