Flax

My Flax plants have bloomed and they are the most beautiful shade of blue. So pretty. My local Purdue Extension guy (sort of the local expert on soil conditions, trees, crops, etc.) told me that our climate is perfect to grow flax (better than more temperate crops such as cotton). He thought it would make a really good crop and I could learn to spin it into linen yarn. I thought he might be on to something until I Googled "flax to linen" and got the real scoop on how it's done. You wouldn't believe the work involved, not including that you have to lay it in wet ditches until the vegetation rots off. Then you beat the fibers off of it, comb it, dry it, the list goes on and on. That's before you even think about getting a spinning wheel and spinning it. Forget it, I said.
