Another gable end. Is it worth it?

The number of gable ends painted in celebration of the commonwealth games seems quite substantial now. So the question that should be asked is whether this public art is worth it? or whether the money used for these paintings could be better spend by allocating it the projects to help the genuinely needy in the city?
