The last two miles
I think Wednesday and Thursday were the hardest days for me. Anything even slightly over ten miles and my flat feet go splat, but I made it to the car each day by sheer will power.
Yesterday was the most interesting day, crossing two aquaducts. We started out in wet weather but it dried up until about 2 p.m. which meant we crossed the bridges in the dry. We also had two long tunnels to go through, which is very disorientating.
The scenery along the canal has varied so much from day to day. We would have barges passing one way or the other, and then at other times we'd see nothing at all. There were very few walkers and they were mainly close to the few hamlets we passed.
Using two cars taxed the brain considerably but we did get the hang of it. There are firms who will transfer luggage for you, but we thought they were just too expensive and are glad we did it ourselves.
Today we completed the last two miles from Llangollen to Horseshoe falls where the river Dee feeds water into the start of the canal. It was such a pretty walk and I took my time, wanting to savour what I had achieved for myself and the companionship of JJ and our friends. A slight groin strain, sore shins, one or two tiny blisters and that's the sum of my aches and pains. I am shattered and it will take a few days to recover but almost fifty miles in less than a week, which doesn't sound much, but I am so happy.
So here you have a collage of this morning's walk. Thank you so much for the interest you've shown, it's been heart warming. xx
