Another hospital visit
The day started with odd jobs around the house. There's a limit to what I can help with so I chose the job I'm always good at, clearing out my mum's fridge and cupboards! I like to do this every few years just to ensure that there aren't old packets of stuff lurking forgotten about at the back. This time I even sorted out the home brewing kit. This was where I found the oldest items, two boxes of mulled wine sachets from 1986! Only two years younger than me!
I then got some driving practice as we headed out to the Toby Carvery for lunch. From there we headed to the Garden Centre to pick up herbs and alpine plants. They're going to be planted into old Belfast sinks on the patio by the kitchen door. We just had time to squeeze in a coffee before we went up to Carlisle to visit Grannie.
When we arrived on the ward (having picked her up a milky coffee and a piece of cake), we found she wasn't there. The staff have been very poor at telling us anything that was going on and so it fell to another patient to inform us that she was off for an echo then will be going into theatre. Not wanting to miss seeing her, we headed off to hunt her down. We found her in the Cardiology department. We saved the porters a walk and pushed her back up to the ward ourselves. As we did, the surgeon caught us, there was an emergency and he wouldn't be able to operate after all. Another day of nil by mouth for no reason.
We headed home and were soon out again to meet my Aunt and Uncle to celebrate Auntie A's birthday. The restaurant needs booked 4 months in advance and only seats about 14 but they squeezed an extra in at short notice so I could join the party. Over 12 years ago, I used to work in the kitchens of the chef's last restaurant.
