Rivington Terraced Gardens
Dean has come to stay! Consequently, I took today off so that we could go for a walk in the afternoon and we decided to go 'round one at Rivington that the Minx has mentioned to me previously. Happily she was free to come with us and so we parked up near the reservoir and headed up the hill.
As far as I was concerned, we were just going to visit a couple of follies at the top and, after a fairly energetic steep walk, we arrived Rivington Pike Tower, which you can read about here.
But the real surprise for me was when we descended, dropping down through the woods and into Rivington Terraced Gardens. The Minx led us unerringly through the trees and every so often we'd come across a small feature: a building, a bridge or, as in the photo, some steps. It was quite beautiful and all the more so for being overgrown. Quite magical.
(The steps reminded me very strongly of an Arthur C. Clarke story called The Fountains of Paradise', which was a favourite of mine when I was younger.)
