Mealbank

Out on an errand today, to Mealbank. It's only a couple of miles outside Kendal, if that, but it seems to be in a world of its own. It's a sizeable hamlet but it has no shops or a pub. When I first moved up here 24 years ago, I looked at a cottage here but I could never have been happy living so far off the beaten track.

There are several lanes leading into Mealbank and it's easy to lose your bearings (or, at least, I find it easy to lose them) but I have one route I know, which takes me down to this bridge, which I cross and then double-back on myself. There were two cars parked up near the bridge to day and three old ladies were standing near them, chatting. When I got out to take this photo, they asked if I was from the council and then regarded me diubtfully when I said I wasn't.
